I enjoy watching the march past, patriotic songs and dances, and participating in drawing or speech competitions. My favourite part is when our principal talks about India’s freedom. I feel proud to be an Indian on this special day.

    Yes, I have watched the parade on TV with my family every year. I like the beautiful state tableaux with their colourful decorations and the brave soldiers marching together. The aerial show with planes in the sky is always a highlight for me. I feel very proud to see our country’s strength and culture on display.

🌞 Independence Day & School Rules

  1. What events take place at your school on Independence Day?
    On Independence Day, I attend the flag hoisting and listen to speeches about our freedom fighters. We all sing patriotic songs and take part in different cultural events like dance or drama. Sweets are distributed and we feel happy and united. I enjoy wearing simple traditional clothes or the school uniform on this day. These events make me respect and remember India’s history.
  2. Write down five rules that are followed at your school. If you were to make one new rule, what would it be?
    Our school follows rules like: being punctual, keeping the surroundings clean, respecting everyone, lining up quietly, and wearing the proper uniform. If I could suggest a new rule, it would be that every student should plant and take care of a tree in the school garden. This would help us learn about responsibility and improve our environment as well.

🇮🇳 State Tableau Activity

  1. Discuss and list down the various items of your state tableau. Make a poster or a model of it.
    I will gather information about my state’s famous dances, festivals, animals, and traditional clothes. Then with my group, I will help make a colourful poster showing our state’s monuments and heritage. We can use waste materials to create a 3D model showing these special things. This activity will help us appreciate and respect our local culture. At the end, we can show the poster and model to other classes and explain their meaning.

    I looked at all sides of my ₹10 note and found the image of Gandhi ji, the Ashoka Lion emblem, different languages, and a small picture of the Sun Temple. I also found a tiny “Swachh Bharat” logo and raised symbols for the visually impaired. Checking currency notes teaches me much about India’s culture and diversity.
  2. Can you spot any special features or hidden images on your note?
    When I held the note to the light, I saw a faint image of Gandhi ji and noticed the “see-through” number. I also found raised dots for people who cannot see well. These features make our currency unique and safe from being copied.

🔖 Design an Emblem Activity

  1. Design an emblem for your school. What message do you want to convey using symbols, words, shapes, and colours?
    I will draw a book and a tree to show knowledge and growth. In the center, I will add hands holding the earth to symbolize unity and care for the environment. My motto will be “Learn, Care, Grow Together”, using green and blue colours for peace. This emblem will remind all students to study wisely and support each other.

    I would suggest the mango as our national fruit because it is grown in many states, loved by everyone in India, and is called the king of fruits. Mangoes are sweet, juicy, and remind me of summer vacations. Their presence in festivals, stories, and art makes them special and truly Indian.
  3. Find out the symbols of your state (animal, tree, bird, flower).
    I will talk to my parents and teachers to collect information about my state’s animal, tree, bird, and flower. It makes me proud to learn what is special about my region. I will try to draw these symbols and display them in my notebook.
  4. Draw or choose a symbol from nature near your school and write one line why it can be your school’s symbol.
    I will choose the tall neem tree outside my classroom as our school’s symbol. It gives shade, keeps the air fresh, and is strong just like our school community. The neem tree inspires me to stay healthy and help others.

🗣️ Languages of India

  1. Find out about the languages spoken by students in your class and name them.
    I will do a class survey and find languages like Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, and Marathi spoken at home. This tells me that our class is like a mini-India where many languages live together. I will try to say “hello” in my friends’ languages to be kind and friendly.
  2. Pick a specific word (for example, mango) and have fun learning what it is called in different languages.
    I will ask my classmates how they say “mango” in their home language. I will write “aam” (Hindi), “maambazham” (Tamil), “māṅgā” (Marathi), and “āmra” (Bengali). It is fun to see how the same fruit has many names across India!

👑 India’s Headgear, Music, and Dance

  1. How many headgears can you name? Make or try one in class.
    I can name the pagri (Rajasthan), topi (Himachal Pradesh), turban (Punjab), and pheta (Maharashtra). My friends and I will try making a simple headgear using a scarf or paper. This activity helps me appreciate the rich tradition behind our clothes.
  2. What are some traditional Indian musical instruments you know of? Try to make one from local materials.
    I know about tabla, mridangam, dholak, flute, and sitar used in Indian music. With help, I will use an empty tin and rubber bands to make a drum. Making music with these is fun and connects me with our culture.
  3. Identify and mark the states on the map where famous dance forms originated.
    I will find Bharatanatyam (Tamil Nadu), Kathak (Uttar Pradesh), Bhangra (Punjab), Kathakali (Kerala), and others on the map. I realize that every state in India has its own dance, and I want to learn more about them by watching videos or performing them in class.

🌈 Unity in Diversity & Togetherness

  1. Why is diversity important in India?
    Diversity means having people with different languages, clothes, foods, and festivals living together. It makes our country colorful and interesting. Our diversity teaches us to respect, share, and learn from one another. This helps us become better people and keeps our country strong and peaceful.
  2. How does India show unity in diversity?
    Even though we have different traditions, we celebrate together, help one another, and stand united as Indians. We play together in school, cheer for our country in sports, and support each other in tough times. This is what makes our “unity in diversity” real and beautiful.

  1. If you could learn one more Indian language, which one would you select and why?
    I want to learn Tamil because it is one of India’s oldest languages and sounds so beautiful. It will help me watch movies and read stories in another language. Learning new languages also helps us appreciate different people.

    On my ₹10 note, I see the lion from the Ashoka Emblem and sometimes elephants or tigers on older notes. They remind me of how important wildlife is for India!

    I have seen pictures of Mahatma Gandhi in my school; he taught us about non-violence and truth. Dr. BR Ambedkar inspired us to fight for equal rights and justice. Their values make me dream about helping others and being brave.

    I will talk to my parents, neighbours, and teachers to find names of local heroes—freedom fighters, scientists, or social workers. I will share their stories with my class so we can all be proud of our heritage.

    Our class will divide into groups and pick different states. We will find out about each state’s dress, festivals, language, music, and food. We’ll set up booths, make posters, and display our findings. Visiting other booths helps us exchange ideas and discover similarities and differences.
