  1. Name the states that Godavari flows through.
Godavari flows through Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha. When I read about rivers, I realize how they pass through so many places and help many people along the way.
  2. Name a dam and a wildlife sanctuary along the length of Godavari.
There is the Polavaram Dam and the Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary along the Godavari. I want to visit these places one day to see how dams and sanctuaries help protect both people and wildlife.
  3. Which other small rivers join Godavari in its journey?
Godavari is joined by small rivers like Manjira, Indravati, Pranhita, and Sabari. I learned that these tributaries make the Godavari wider and stronger!

  1. List three ways in which people are dependent on the river Godavari.
I am dependent on the river for drinking water, for watering crops in the fields, and for fishing or transportation. Rivers are truly a part of our day-to-day life.
  2. In which occupations are people engaged near the river Godavari?
Near the river, people work as farmers, fishers, potters, traders, and also help tourists learn about nature. I think these jobs are important for families living by the river.
  3. Which crops do you see growing near the Godavari?
I see rice, sugarcane, cotton, wheat, pulses, and many vegetables growing near the Godavari. It feels wonderful to know that our food often comes from fields close to a river.
  4. Which crops grow in your region? Where does the water for irrigation come from?
In my region, (students add local crops). The water for irrigation mainly comes from rivers, lakes, or underground wells. It teaches me the value of every drop!

  1. What problems can arise after a dam is built? How can they be solved?
After a dam is built, some people and animals may lose their homes, and forests may get flooded. To solve this, I think the government should plan carefully, provide new homes to those who are shifted, and make strong efforts to save animals and trees. Also, everyone must use stored water sensibly.

  1. Where do the plastic wrappers and bags that we litter end up?
If I litter plastic wrappers and bags, they can flow into rivers and oceans. This pollutes the water and makes life difficult for many animals. I promise to throw all my waste in dustbins only.
  2. What kinds of soaps, shampoos or floor cleaners are used in your home? Where does the unclean water go?
At home, we use (student: write your brand). The dirty water from bath and washing goes into the drains, and if not properly cleaned, it may reach rivers. I will ask my family to always use water-friendly products.

📄 Page 28

  1. Make a list of things that we throw into the waste bin. How would these harm a river?
I throw plastic, wrappers, batteries, and food waste in the bin. If these reach a river, fish and birds can die or get sick, and people might get diseases from dirty water. I always try to dispose of waste in the right way.
  2. Observation-based: What do you observe? Which one appears clear? List things that dissolve and do not dissolve in water.
When I add sugar to water, it dissolves and the water looks clear. Oil does not dissolve. Things like salt and sugar dissolve in water, while oil, plastic, and sand do not. This activity shows me why we should be careful about what we put in our rivers.

  1. Can you list three things you can do to protect water bodies near you?
    • I will always throw waste in dustbins, not in rivers or ponds.
    • I will use eco-friendly soaps, so dirty water stays clean.
    • I will plant trees near water bodies and teach my friends about saving water.

    • Spread of diseases –> People's health
    • Damaged homes –> Shelter for people

  2. Activity 6 – Flood Safety Tips (Before, During, and After):
    • Before: I will keep emergency items ready at home and check the news for warnings.

  1. What would you do if you had no water in your home for an entire day?
If I have no water at home for a day, I will use the water stored before and not waste it on unimportant things. I would also borrow water from neighbours if necessary.
  2. What if there was no water for a week? How would you bathe, drink, cook or clean? Where would you go to find water?
If there is no water for a week, I will use the least water possible. For drinking and cooking, I will go to public taps, hand pumps, or bring water from nearby rivers or wells. I will request help from the local government if needed.

  1. Find out which river(s) flow through your state.
    (a) What are they used for? (b) Are there any dams on them?

I will ask elders or search books to learn which rivers are in my state, how they are used (for drinking, farming, factories), and check if there are any big dams.
  2. Ask your grandparents or parents to share any story or festival related to rivers in your region and present it in the class.
I will collect river stories or festival memories from my family and narrate the best ones to my class.
  3. Ask an elder in your family:
    (a) What was the condition of rivers when you were a child? (b) What has changed since then?

I will talk to my grandparents or parents and note how rivers have changed over the years—maybe they were cleaner or had more fish in the past.
  4. Why do you think people built houses and cities near rivers in the past? Are rivers still important today in the same way?
I think people lived near rivers for water, jobs, and farming. Even now, rivers provide us with so much—we must protect them always!
  5. If you could create one new rule to protect rivers in your city or village, what would it be?
I would make a rule to ban all types of waste dumping and tell everyone about river safety.
  6. Think about a time when you wasted water. What could you have done differently?
I left the tap on while brushing. I should have turned it off and reminded my family too.
  7. Can you design a simple water filter using everyday materials? What would you include and why?
I can make a filter with a bottle, sand, gravel, charcoal, and cotton. All these help stop dirt from mixing with clean water.
  8. Imagine you are planning a new city near a river. What steps would you take to:
    (a) keep the river clean.
    (b) prevent floods during heavy rains.
    (c) ensure there is always enough water for everyone, even during summers.
    • (a) I will make sure nobody throws garbage or waste in the water.
    • (b) I will build strong drains and plant trees, so water flows well and does not flood houses.
    • (c) I will store rainwater and advise people to use water carefully, so everyone gets enough, even in summers.

💡 Interactive Session:

If I could invent a gadget or app to help save rivers, I would create a special robot that swims and collects plastic and waste on its own. What would you invent? Share your great idea in the comments section below—best ones will be featured on the blog!
